aAh! Magazine The Freshers Issue

aAh! Magazine is a student-led publication created at Manchester Metropolitan University.

For the Freshers Issue, we welcomed new and returning students to the 2024 academic year with the theme “Authentically Manchester.” The issue celebrated traditional artistic mediums, incorporating texture and letterpress-style titles throughout.

I had the honour of illustrating the cover and designing two articles. My goal was to reflect the excitement and adventure of university life, using bold colours and textured elements to align with the publication’s core themes.

Belinda Everett

A Catalyst for Change

This article spotlighted Belinda Everett, Manchester’s first cycling mayor, who is dedicated to breaking down the barriers women—particularly women of colour—face when entering the world of cycling.

For the accompanying illustrations, I focused on depicting strong, confident characters to reflect Belinda’s spirit and aimed to create a dynamic page layout.

Natural Spots Less Than an Hour Away from the City

This article showcases natural spots less than an hour from Manchester, including Fletcher Moss’ Botanical Gardens and spots in the Peak District.

I illustrated a vibrant, interconnected landscape to highlight each destination, using bold colors and textures to reflect their charm. I wanted this illustration to inspire the reader to go out and explore.
